The Science Behind The SPF

How It Feels:
Face Shield Flex SPF 50 starts out white, and upon activating with the heat of your fingertips, the colour will transform into a tone-adapting shade. Flex has a demi-matte, lightweight finish on the skin.
Why We Made It:
This blendable tinted sunscreen was created to blur the lines between foundation and SPF, to provide customisable colour coverage whilst offering comprehensive sun defence.
+ THE MAGIC INGREDIENT
Iron oxide pigments:
These micronised pigments act as cosmetic colourants and are encapsulated to allow them to adjust to the skin’s natural tone when activated upon contact. This ingredient is also proven to protect skin from damage and photoageing caused by blue (HEV) light.
How To Apply

Tips to get the most out of your Face Shield Flex:
- Dispense onto your fingers, rub gently, and watch as the encapsulated iron oxide pigments are released and bloom in your fingertips.
- Once the formula is no longer white, apply it evenly on the face. Finish with just one layer for a naturally flawless finish, or build another layer or two for fuller coverage.
- PRO TIP: For a perfected, protected look, apply FLEX all over the face for a flawless canvas, and then use Glow to highlight the high points, and Bronze to contour.

FAQs
Do chemical-free sunscreens offer protection against both UVA and UVB rays?
Yes, chemical-free sunscreens provide protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide work by forming a physical barrier on the skin’s surface, effectively reflecting and scattering harmful rays before they can penetrate the skin. Our range of all-mineral sunscreens provide broad-spectrum protection against UVA, UVB, blue light and infrared radiation.
What is EnviroScreen® Technology?
EnviroScreen® Technology is proprietary to Colorescience. EnviroScreen® Technology uses patented active ingredients, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide, which create a barrier preventing free radical formation and oxidative stress. These patented actives are combined with specialty ingredients that, together, work synergistically to protect skin from damage caused by exposure to UVA/UVB rays, pollution, blue light (also known as High Energy Visible, or HEV, light), and infrared radiation.
Why is mineral makeup good for your skin?
You're getting the protection from sun damage from the minerals, which will help to stop premature skin ageing as we discussed earlier, and there are numerous other natural and healthy ingredients in there. But we're not finished just yet – there are a few more healthy reasons why you should add mineral face makeup to your daily routine.
The mineral makeup palettes and products you see here at Colorescience are non-comedogenic, which means they allow your pores to breathe without blocking them up. This is great for anyone with acne-prone or sensitive skin, but it's also great for everyone else because nobody wants suffocated pores.
Another benefit is that the ingredients used are so natural and gentle that they can be used on just about any type of skin, including broken skin and rosacea, and even post-procedure skin.
In fact, most dermatologists recommend this type of product for use after peels and other procedures because they are so confident that it will be gentler than traditional types of makeup and skincare that have been around in the past.
What are the benefits of using a mineral foundation?
As mineral foundations are often formulated with finely ground natural minerals, they are often free from harsh chemicals, fragrance or additives which may contribute to skin irritation and allergies, making them ideal for sensitive, reactive skin types. Check out our range of mineral foundations here.
Does mineral foundation protect against sun damage?
Mineral foundations containing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide do protect against sun damage, as these two ingredients act as a physical sunscreen barrier to reflect harmful UV rays away from the skin.
