More about our zinc oxide sunscreens

In general, zinc oxide sunscreen is a type of product that uses the natural mineral zinc as a main active ingredient. Here at Colorescience we use another natural mineral, zinc oxide, in our sun protection products. This includes the brush on sunscreens as well as the cream formulas. These two mineral ingredients form a physical barrier on top of the skin that actually reflects harmful radiation from the sun, in contrast to chemical-based sunscreens that merely absorb and dissipate the radiation.

Because it acts as a physical barrier on top of the skin instead of penetrating the skin, it also means you are not introducing unnecessary toxins to your body. This is important because anything that penetrates the skin can cause reactions within the body, depending on which particular ingredients are used in the product.

It is also important to note that past forms of sunscreen with zinc oxide were prone to leaving unsightly marks on the skin while wearing it. Our products are much less likely to do that. In fact, our Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield gives you SPF 50 protection while remaining virtually invisible by blending in with your natural skin tone. It's also lightweight so you don't feel like you're wearing sunscreen at all.

What are the benefits of zinc oxide sunscreen?
Zinc oxide is currently considered the most effective active ingredient for sun protection, so that is perhaps the biggest benefit of using these sunscreens. It is also the safest ingredient, having been used for centuries by diverse cultures around the world and having been subject to much research and testing. The difference between what our ancestors did with zinc and what we can do with it now mostly comes down to advances in technology. We are now able to reduce the particle size to make them far smaller than they could have dreamed of in the past. Reducing the particle size does not make it less effective – it makes it so the sunscreen just isn't as visible on your skin.
More about our zinc oxide sunscreens
Now you can harness the power of zinc oxide sunscreen in either brush on powder or cream formulas to give your skin up to SPF 50 protection from both UVA and UVB radiation from the sun. This is important for everyone because even though you may not think it's sunny enough to need sunscreen, your skin can feel it even on a fairly mild day. Any dermatologist will tell you the same, and they'll tell you that the best way to protect your skin now and retain your youthful look in to the future is by using a good quality sunscreen on a regular basis.
